‘How does a Yorkshire based company end up making their own brand of condoms?’ is a question we get asked most days. The answer however is not that complex!
Our journey started in 1993 by selling ‘mail order’ Durex condoms through various popular magazines of the time. Whilst we had some success from this business, we noted there was a clear gap in the market to provide consumers with a brand of high quality products at a more affordable price.
At this point, brothers, and company founders, Andy and Steve Taylor, decided to take the plunge and launch their own brand of condoms and lube. In 1997, the ‘EXS’ brand was launched and brought to the market with our first product being comparable to the current EXS Regular condom.
From this point on, innovation and creativity has been at the heart of everything that we do and over the years, we have grown the brand by adding more and more condom types and new products to our range.
Fast forward nearly 30 years and we have grown as a business and a group individuals. LTC Healthcare has been supplying the UK’s NHS with EXS condoms for approaching 20 years and now sells over 12 million condoms per annum to over 32 countries worldwide.
Innovation is still as important to us today as it was in 1997 and we are continually pushing our brand to be at the forefront of technology. We now have vegan condoms, with the majority of the EXS brand being vegan society and PETA approved. We have pushed the boundaries of ‘thin’ with not one, but two, types of EXS thin condoms.
Over the past 30 years the market has changed significantly. Competitor brands have been ‘bought out’ by corporate giants and our industry has sadly faced negative press. However, EXS is here to stay as an independent family owned brand supplying ethical, high quality, affordable condoms to our customers.
In 2021 our mission is simple. We want to encourage, empower and educate people to practice safe and consensual sex in a way that provides freedom, enjoyment and equality whilst maintaining the highest quality standards. We will continue to work until this mission statement is achieved.
